Damascus knives (sometimes written as damascene knives)
Damascus steel is a type of multi-layer steel, which is created by joining (welding and forging) two or more different types of steel – usually hard and soft. These layers are repeatedly folded, forged and forged, creating a material with a typical patterned surface (ripples, lines, meshes…).
The original Damascus steel comes from India and the Middle East (Damascus – hence the name), but modern “damascus” is produced more like so-called musterstahl or “pattern-welded steel”.
